One of the highest maintenance cost areas in a Bio-mass combustor as it ages is combustion chamber grate replacement. Conventional combustors either use cast iron or corrosion resistant iron alloys for their grates. Neither material offers much in the way of heat and corrosion resistance when operating at elevated temperatures.
Amsco, along with Bio-Mass combustion designers, has developed a corrosion and heat resistant steel alloy that has increased combustion chamber grate life by up to 3 or 4 times that of all conventional grates. These grates operate in temperatures exceeding 1800F.
